The Dresser Project: Part I
As I said yesterday, I’m fixing up a dresser for the new apartment…in NYC…which I’ll be moving into in August.
Anywho, found a dresser in my basement that my dad’s been using to hold random cords, sandpaper and a lot of spare doorknobs for the last two decades.
This is said dresser:
It was owned my my great-great aunt Edna…

Please notice the lovely stickers all over it. By the way, none of what the labels claim were in there were…
So I cleaned it.
View my rag:
Lost a handle in the process but now I won’t sneeze all over it :]
Look what I got :]
oh and on top of my college graduation picture…here’s my grandmother graduating high school…66 years ago :]
reading letters my great-grandfather wrote to his siblings in 1918
he was in France during WWI and 22 years old.
Seems he wrote angry anti-Kaiser poetry lmao
It’s 6 pages long and rhymes, and it’s all about how after this war Germany won’t exist.
…only slightly weird in retrospect.
This is my gorgeous grandmother that I posted a picture of here
Most perfect person :]
and doesn’t my grandfather look like Desi Arnaz?
Just found out my “real” last name
was perfection <3
I just found where my great-grandmother is buried
right next to my great-great-grandparents.
I’m literally sitting here crying.
I’m going to see them.
An Update on My Life
I’ve kind of sucked a lot at in depth blogging lately.
So anyway, I hope you had a very good first day of 2012.
I spent today in my pajamas with my family watching the Law & Order SVU marathon, eating delicious food and going through really old pictures (hence the photo I uploaded of my great-great-grandmother…)
Anywho, I scrapbooked a ton today. My grandmother (the one who died when I was 14 and used to live with me…the one I basically want to become when I “grow up” minus the deadly cigarette addiction) started this scrapbook with me right before she died because she wanted all her old photos labeled so someone could identify these ancient great-great-whatevers who were all born in like 1850…so I took that on. And of course I never finished (I blame my mother because she misplaced the photos and found them last week…but then again I blame my mother for everything.) So I’ve been scrapbooking/ancestry.com-ing all day.
I love doing that sort of stuff. I think I’ve mentioned before I feel like I’m at this major crossroads these days and so I figure in terms of “knowing where I’m coming from” I might as well go as far back as I can (which seems to be at immigration status as no one really keeps solid internet records of a bunch of Jews in Eastern Europe in the 1800s until they hit America) but hey, it’s been pretty awesome.
As for ancestry.com, if you have the funds and the time and a clue of what you’re looking for, I do highly recommend it. If you’re into that kind of this of course. I mean, some people just don’t give a shit who their great-great-grandmother was. (Personally, I think you’re nutso. But that’s because my great-great grandmother were these awesome broads.)
(You know…I don’t see the resemblance there…)
Ummm…still haven’t heard from Columbia yet…but supposedly within the next 10 days, so we shall see.
It’s been nice being home…mostly because I spend 60% of my time with manfriend, and I like that sort of life :]
Anyway, it’s 2am and I’m exhausted, so I’m off to sleep!
P.S. tell me my great-grandmother (my awesome grandmother’s mama) didn’t have the most beautiful looking wedding attire ever.
